An active month, with news of a prize — and paintings in Crescent City, San Francisco, Tiburon and Pacifica.

In Crescent City, “Storm at Ocean Beach” (from the “Ripples” series) won Honorable Mention in the 6th Annual National Coast Redwoods Art Association Juried Competition. This is my second year in this show. The painting had also been juried into the Santa Cruz Art League’s annual landscape show, in June. Please visit the Crescent Harbor Gallery at 140 Marine Way in Crescent City, CA — through September 29. The gallery is open M-S 11-4 and S noon-4.

In San Francisco, a new watercolor called “Dark Night of the Soul” appears in the San Francisco Women Artists’ current juried show, “Views,” through October 2. The gallery is at Sacramento and Laurel, and is open T-W-Th noon-5 and F-S noon-5:30.

In Tiburon, the Marin County Watercolor Society hosts a members-only show that includes “The 4 Seasons of Water,” also from my “Ripples” series. The show is at the Rock Hill Community Church through October 13.

And in Pacifica, another members-only show — the Art Guild of Pacifica’s annual at the Sanchez Art Center at 1220 Linda Mar Boulevard. I’m showing one more from “Ripples” — this one is called “Surface Pattern.” The show runs until October 17 and gallery hours are F-S-S 1-5.

It seeme to be the season for art events focussing on our precious resource of water. ”Before Diving In,” one of my “Ripples” watercolors that was just shown in Sausalito, makes another public appearance, now at “H2O” at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts. The show runs until September 4 at 6780 Depot Street in Sebastopol (T-W-Th-F 10-4 and Sat 1-4).

The monthly juried show at the San Francisco Women Artists’ gallery is “Reflections,” and one of my watercolor mosaics can be seen there — “Surface Pattern,” from the “Ripples” series. The gallery is at Sacramento and Laurel in San Francisco and hours are T-W-Th 12-5 and F-S 11:45-5:30. The show runs until August 7.

I’m happy to be part of a new project — the brainstorm of friend, fellow artist and art-community enthusiast Kathy Dybeck.

Later this month, 10 of us are banding together for a group show at Kathy’s home/studio in San Francisco. Called the Summer Art Salon, it’s an offshoot of Kathy’s annual Christmas-time arts and crafts sale — a re-gathering of some of us who belonged to the co-op gallery on Judah Street that Kathy ran until 2008 — an activity of members of the Tangerine Arts group in Pacifica — an opportunity to meet us and look at and talk about a variety of paintings, prints and photographs in a relaxed, informal setting (with refreshments, of course).

The Summer Art Salon takes place on Friday, June 25 (5-9) — Saturday, June 26 (10-6) and Sunday, June 27 (12-4) at the Fogbelt Studio/Art Waves Gallery at 2528 25th Avenue (between Ulloa and Vicente), San Francisco. Please stop by — I’d love to visit with you, and I know my fellow artists would too. And I’m confident you’ll like our work.

Gallery 111 is currently hosting “surface/tension: h2o” — a juried show featuring “distinctive thematic interpretations addressing the essential, alluring and/or transitional nature of water” at two venues in Sausalito — its own in the ICB building at 480 Gate Five Road (where my watercolor “Before Diving In” is located) and the Bay Model at 2100 Bridgeway. Gallery 111 hours are Th-F-S 1-5 PM. The Bay Model is open T-W-Th-F 9-4; starting June 15, it will add weekend horus of 10-5. The show runs through July 11.

My watercolor mosaic “Storm at Ocean Beach” is part of the Santa Cruz Art League’s 80th annual statewide exhibition of contemporary landscapes. The show can be seen through June 27 at the SCAL’s gallery at 526 Broadway. Gallery hours are W-Th-F-S 12-5 and S 12-4.

And it’s not a show, but a new publication — the 2010 literary journal “Caesura” by the San Jose Poetry Center contains B&W versions of my three “Winter Literature” watercolors.

“Expressions of the Bay Area,” a juried show featuring works by members of San Francisco Women Artists, continues until May 28 at the Thoreau Center for Sustainability, located in San Francisco’s Presidio and open M-F 9-5. My pastel landscape “Marin Headlands (One)” is part of the show.

And at the Women Artists’ own gallery at Sacramento @ Laurel, this months’s show is called “Artist’s Choice,” and my “Relic” (seashell) and “Golden Gate Bridge” (watercolor mosaic) are included. The show runs through June 5 and gallery hours are T-W-Th 12-5 and F-S 11:45-5:30.

I’m very pleased to have two watercolors — “Water Born(e)” and “Rising Tide” — accepted into the 81st Annual Connecticut Women Artists Open Juried Exhibition. This is my fourth appearance in CWA’s annual national show, which I enter for sentimental reasons as my roots are in Connecticut. The show runs from May 9 to June 7 at the John Slade Ely House in New Haven.

“Lake on Fire,” a watercolor mosaic depicting one of the wildland fires that my son fought during the summer of 2007, is part of the “Mosaics” show at Artworks Downtown in San Rafael, through April 23. The gallery is at 1337 Fourth Street and is open T-W-Th-F-S 10-5.

The Thoreau Gallery at the Thoreau Center for Sustainability, located in San Francisco’s Presidio and open M-F 9-5, is hosting “Expressions of the Bay Area,” a juried show featuring works by members of San Francisco Women Artists. The show opens March 19 and runs until May 28. My pastel landscape “Marin Headlands (One)” is part of the show.

“Immersion,” one of my watercolor interpretations of water, can still be seen in the Marin Arts Council’s annual members’ show — through March 26 at the Marin Civic Center in San Rafael (M-F 9-5).

“Relic,” a sea shell watercolor, is in the Art Guild of Pacifica’s “Deja Vu” show at the Sanchez Art Center, 1220 Linda Mar Boulevard in Pacifica. The show runs through March 28. The center is open F-S-S 1-5.

My watercolor mosaic “Fire Storm” has taken on a couple of new lives! Magically, it seems, the actual painting is hanging on the wall over my desk while digitally appearing in a magazine and on a CD.

The magazine is the Santa Clara Review, published by Santa Clara University. It’s a paper-and-ink production and also available on the web — www.santaclarareview.com — click on “Issues,” then “Fall/Winter 2010.”

And friend and poet Joan Gelfand selected “Fire Storm” as the artwork for “Transported,” her newly released CD of poetry and music (with musician Marty Castleberg). You can hear excerpts of Joan’s/Marty’s work on www.joangelfand.com (click on “Listen”) or purchase through www.digstation.com.

My pastel “Tender Heart” is in the “Small Works” juried show through March 7 at the San Francisco Women Artists gallery at Sacramento@Laurel — T-W-Th 12-5 and F-S 11:45-5:30.

The 26th Annual National Show of the North Valley Art League — where “Before Diving In,” a water painting, can be seen — continues until February 27 at the Carter House Galley in Caldwell Park, Redding, CA. Gallery hours are T-W-T-F-S 11-4.
